Sneh Rana Facts

  1. She had made her international debut for India in January 2014, just about a month before her 20th birthday. However, a knee injury that she had sustained in 2016 had disrupted her dream start as she did not get to play international cricket for about 5 years thereafter.
  2. In May 2021, just a few weeks after her all-round performances had helped Railways Women capture their 12th domestic 50-overs title, she had been selected in India’s test match squad for their upcoming one-off away match against England. In that domestic tournament, she was her team’s top wicket-taker with 18 dismissals at an astonishing average of 12.66 and she had also recorded 160 runs in critical situations while batting in the lower middle order. She was the star of the final of that tournament – 34 runs with the bat and figures of 3/33 with the ball.
  3. On June 16, 2021, she had made her test match debut, as well as her international comeback, in the aforementioned test match against England. In the 1st innings of the match, she was India’s best performer with the ball – 4/131 in 39.2 overs. England had scored 396 runs in the first innings and had enforced the follow-on after registering a lead of 165 runs.
  4. When Sneh came out to bat in India’s 2nd innings, on the 4th and final day of the match, India was tottering at 189/6 in the 71st over. With about 63 overs still left in the match and India’s score effectively at 24/6, there was a real danger that England could easily knock over the remaining wickets and win the match. Sneh, though, had other ideas as she scored 80 counter-attacking runs not out to lift India to a score of 344/8 as the teams shook hands, with 12 overs remaining, for an honorable draw.
  5. Her score of 80 runs not out was the 3rd-highest of all-time from the number 8 batting position in women’s test matches. Her unbroken partnership of 104 runs for the 9th wicket with Taniya Bhatia in that match was the 2nd-highest for the 9th wicket in the history of women’s test matches. She had also become the first Indian cricketer (male or female) to have recorded a 50-plus score and a 4-plus wicket haul on test match debut.
  6. In India’s opening match of the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, against arch-rivals Pakistan, she had come in to bat with India struggling at 112/5 in the 31st over. She had then produced a brilliant knock of 53 runs not out off just 48 balls. Her 7th wicket partnership of 122 runs with Pooja Vastrakar had set the new record for the most number of partnership runs scored for the 7th wicket in women’s ODIs. Her effort had dragged India’s score to a competitive 244 runs and she then went on to bowl a frugal spell (2/27 in 9 overs) in the 2nd innings of the match as India won the game by 107 runs. This was India’s 11th successive win over Pakistan in WODIs.
  7. In India’s 3rd match of the tournament, against the West Indies, she was the team’s best performer with the ball (3/22 in 9.3 overs) as India bundled the West Indies out for just 162 runs to win the game by a mammoth margin of 155 runs.
  8. In India’s 6th match of the tournament, against Bangladesh, she had walked out to bat with India struggling at 176/6 in the 44th over. She had scored 27 runs off 23 runs to help India reach a fighting total of 229 runs. She was then India’s best performer with the ball (4/30 in 10 overs) as India knocked over Bangladesh for just 119 runs to win the match by 110 runs.
